with love, from the future

accessibility

This site should be readable by anyone who wants to read it. Here is what we have done, what we have not checked yet, and how to tell us when something is in your way.

Our goal

We are working towards WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is a goal we are aiming at, not a standard we are claiming to meet. No formal accessibility audit has been done.

How the site is built

The site is text in a single column, built with ordinary headings, links, buttons and labelled form fields rather than imitations of them. Links and form fields show an outline when they are selected, and links are underlined as well as coloured, so colour is never the only signal.

Nothing moves on its own. There is no animation, no autoplay and nothing that changes while you are reading. Letters are set at a comfortable reading width, text contrast has been measured, and the layout reflows down to a small phone screen without sideways scrolling.

There is no accessibility overlay or toolbar on this site. Overlays tend to make things worse, and we would rather fix the page.

What we have not checked

The site has not been tested with a screen reader, with voice control, or by anyone who uses those tools day to day. It has not been checked at high zoom levels, and no accessibility audit has been carried out.

Our testing so far has been in one desktop browser, plus looking at the site on an iPhone to check how it appears. Checking how something looks is not the same as checking whether it works for people using assistive technology, and we do not want to suggest otherwise.

Known limitations

Each artwork in the Offerings gallery is a photograph, shown as an image with a written description. Where an artwork includes words from a letter, those words are part of the picture, so they cannot be selected, resized or read as text. The letter an artwork came from is linked beside it, and there the whole letter is ordinary text.

The submission form does not save drafts. If your session is interrupted, your writing can be lost. For a long letter it is worth writing somewhere else first and pasting it in.

Tell us about a barrier

If something here stops you reading a letter or leaving one, please write to hello@withlovefromthefuture.com and tell us what happened and what you were using. You do not need to explain why you need it.

One person runs this project, so we cannot promise how quickly we will reply. Every report is read, and this page is updated as things are fixed.
